2012 Golf Outing at Wilson Road Golf Course

No Power Outage Here!

2012 Champions: Stacy Lane, Cathy Lane (caddie), Becca Lane and Charlie Hoertz shot a 5 under par 25 Net Score!

Just 18 hours after scorching temperatures, high winds and thunderstorms knocked out electricity to most of central Ohio, toppled trees in yard after yard and left the 22nd annual Soller Memorial in doubt, a Lane of opportunity opened up on the course. Despite spending the night in a hotel to escape the heat and humidity, the team of Stacy and Becca Lane and son-in-law

Charlie Hoertz road an eagle on #4 to a net 25 score and a 6-8 putt-off playoff victory over Doug and Carole Myser, Eileen Martin and Mark Abell.

The scores matched the scorching heat this year, with two teams at 25, a 26 and several 27s. Besides Charlie Hoertz’s eagle on #4, Brian Vermillion recorded the first Hole In One in Soller Memorial History on number 8! Steve Soller took home the Longest Drive prize, putting one into the creek, Donna Jones outhit her husband Rob to win the Women’s Longest Drive, Joel Beall won the closest to the pin on #2 and the Longest Putt on #9 was won by first time entrant Eamonn Bahnson.

This year’s tournament featured many new players with varied skills but the Rookie of the Year award went to Reese Yakubov, a last minute qualifier filling in while the original player, Kevin Vannatta, was called to storm clean-up duty. Undeterred by the rowdy and record crowds at the 1st hole, the 9 year old Reese amazed the multitude with a thunderous 1st drive that split the fairway.

Sartorial Splendor Redone: Reversing course from their Screamin’ Eagle attire of 2 years ago, Joel Beall, John Stahly, Craig Baldwin and Eric Johnson went with the Beach Bum look this year. Unfortunately, Major Crispin, the head pro, was not amused and after fielding calls from startled housewives from the Golfview Woods housing complex abutting the course, requested that they change to proper attire.

Other winners:

Ryan Vermillion won the iPad Tablet Grand Prize.

Steve Soller won the Longest Drive with a 300 yard drive!

Joel Beal won Closest to the Pin award, Eamonn Bahnson won the Longest Putt and Donna Jones won the Longest Drive for women.

A BIG thank you to everyone who donated their time and effort to make this year such a success, including our master chef and my better half, Linda Soller, Margie Powelson and Cathy Lane for getting the wonderful prizes, Cathy Lane for the food and drinks, Schmidt’s for the hot dogs and Bahama Mama's, Joe Soller for the trophies, Annie and Leah and Lydia, our cart girls, Donna and Rob Jones, Evan Horton, Mark Vannatta and all others for their gifts and everyone for participating and hopefully having a great time!

Plus a HUGE Thank You to George Promenschenkel and the Northwoods Foundation for donating $1,000 to A Kid Again!

As always, the big winner was A Kid Again as we were able to donate a total of $2,500 to their organization to help kids with life-threatening illnesses enjoy some of the adventures healthy kids enjoy every day. Thanks to everyone for their participation!
